Tips: Difference between DC-DC buck converter and boost converter
DC-DC buck converters and boost converters are two common types of power converters, and the main difference between them is the relationship of their output voltage relative to the input voltage.
- Buck converter: A buck converter reduces the input voltage below the output voltage. This means the output voltage is less than the input voltage and is often used to convert high voltage to a lower voltage, such as converting 12V from a car battery to 5V for use in electronic devices.
- Boost converter: A boost converter increases the input voltage above the output voltage. This means the output voltage is higher than the input voltage and is often used to convert a low voltage to a higher voltage, such as boosting a battery’s 3.7V to 5V for USB charging.
